Where to Get Christian Debt Help
As Christians we are called to be responsible with our money, so we can tithe our income to the church, help the needy and live debt-free. Unfortunately, Christians get in debt just as often as non-Christians do and according to statistics Christians and non-Christians spend, save or donate approximately the same amount of money.
If you belong to the majority of American Christians, there is a time to get Christian debt help and set yourself free.
Before you look for any debt relief help, the first thing you have to do is to make a covenant with God. Promise Him that every unexpected financial blessing will be used to pay your debt off. Pray about your financial situation everyday and ask God to help you change your debt mentality and help you control your spending.
If it is hard for you to manage your debt by yourself, then get professional debt help. Look for non-profit Christian organizations which offer free Christian debt consolidation. Keep in mind though that non-profit doesn’t have to be free, so you have to be careful while searching for a program. You certainly don’t want to get deeper in debt while trying to get out of it.
If you have enough self-discipline, you may just go to Amazon and take a look at Christian guides on how to eliminate debt and live debt free. Amazon is great because it always has customer reviews, so you can get a pretty good idea if the book you are looking at is good.
Talking to your pastor in church is a good idea as well. He may be able to recommend someone who can help you out. Often there are financial advisors of life coaches in church (especially if your church is big) and they may want to volunteer to help you out.
If you need some inspiration to help you pay off your debt fast, write this scripture down on a piece of paper and put it in you wallet, so every time you open it to make a purchase, you will be reminded of what God tells us about debt:
Romans 13:7-8
[7] Pay all of them their dues, taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
[8] Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
